  • Can I submit a film to the Cinéfondation Selection if I am not studying in a film school?

    No, your film must have been made in the course of your studies at a film school or university with a cinema department (secondary schools are excluded).

  • Is it possible to enter a film for both the Cinéfondation Selection and Short Film Competition?

    Yes, if it meets the entry requirements of both selections. 

  • If I enter my film for both the Cinéfondation Selection and Short Film Competition must I complete two separate entries?

    Yes.

  • If I am entering both the Cinéfondation and Short Film Competitions must I submit a single DVD?

    No, you must submit a DVD for each selection as two different selection committees are involved and your DVD will not be automatically forwarded from one to the other.

  • Can my film be selected for both the Cinéfondation Selection and Short Film Competition?

    No, you will be asked to choose the Selection you prefer to show your film, as the Cinéfondation and Short Film Competition share the same Jury at Cannes.

  • What do you mean by major international festivals?

    Class A festivals (Berlin, Venice, San Sebastian, etc.)

  • Is it possible to submit a working copy of the film?

    Yes this will have absolutely no negative impact on your chances of selection.

  • Is the Résidence programme open only to foreigners or also to French nationals?

    The programme gives priority to foreigners.

  • In cases of joint projects, can both parties register to join the Résidence programme?

    Yes, but if your project is selected only one candidate will be entitled to participate in the programme.

  • Is there an age limit?

    The average age range is between 24 and 40 years old.

  • Is the Résidence a training event?

    The Résidence is not a masterclass.

  • Can my family accompany me to the Résidence?

    No, the Résidence is a workplace shared with five other filmmakers.

  • Will there be an appeal for candidatures for the Atelier?

    No, the selection of the Atelier is the result of scouting conducted throughout the year by Cinéfondation (until 31st October, after which date projects are no longer considered).

  • What are the eligibility requirements for a project?

    It must be a feature film project for the cinema. The project must be backed by a producer and at least 20% of the funding must be met.

  • Is the Atelier a writing workshop?

    No, the Atelier is a Cinéfondation programme in which 15 directors are invited each year to the Festival de Cannes to present their feature film project. The objective of the Atelier is to help these filmmakers raise additional funds to complete their films.

  • How can I learn more about the projects presented at the Atelier?

    Every year in early April, the Atelier presents a Livre des projets on the Cinéfondation website.
