Synopsis

Having lived in a сapital city for many years, Aldar, a successful political consultant, returns to his home in the provinces to search for his mother who has disappeared in the Steppe. When he finds her, they go on a journey that they didn't have time for while she was alive. He is accompanied by a girl named Okon. First, he sees her just as a girlfriend, then as a spirit medium who helps him to find his mother, and then, eventually, as the essence of his nature, his internal code that allows him to be born anew, to be saved, and to be freed.

Statement

“White Road” is a modern myth based on kalmyk culture. The film recounts the feelings that contrast reality. It is about what’s in the air, but is impossible to touch or observe. What we seem to witness might end up being just a figment of our imagination. On the other hand, it could be that we attach too much significance to the feelings, judge by the ephemeral sensation, trust it even more than we trust the evidence. What if we imagine our feelings to be factual and objective? Then our dreams, our memories, and senses would break time and space, granting us an exquisite freedom, but also the fear of the unknown.
