Jessica HAUSNER
Biography
Born in Austria in 1972, Jessica Hausner studied directing at the Vienna Filmakademie. Her first short, Flora (1996), Leopard of Tomorrow at Locarno, was followed by Inter-view, her graduation film, Special Mention from the Cinéfondation Jury in 1999. She set up her own production company called coop99 that same year with Barbara Albert, Antonin Svoboda and Martin Gschlacht. The Festival de Cannes selected her first two feature films, Lovely Rita (2001) and Hotel (2004), for Un Certain Regard. They bear witness to the uncompromising acuity of her vision as a director. Lourdes, an interrogation into the ambivalence of miracle healing, was invited to compete in Venice in 2009 (Fipresci Prize) and earned Sylvie Testud a Best Actress Prize at the European Film Awards.
