Synopsis
Mónica is a 47-year-old choreographer who lives in Buenos Aires. She was born in a small village in Burgos, Spain. Now, the only people left living there are her parents and six other people. She decides to return after twenty years when she receives a call from her sister, telling her that their father is dying. When she arrives, her father is already dead. After the funeral, her mother asks her to stay to help her sell the house. Now practically strangers, they have to get to know each other and learn to live with one another. After years of loneliness, Mónica feels like an outsider. Returning means rediscovering the world that surrounds her. The perpetual silence, the cold and working on the fields force her to face an emptiness that has been eating away at her for years. Mónica takes refuge in the dance, the only place where she feels free and comfortable. Dance allows her to express what happens inside her. The closer to reality she is, the more sincere, emotional and real her dance becomes.
Statement
The film is a fiction based on real emotions and looks for real emotions. The main concept is distance. It aims at approaching life in a manner that reveals reality as it is. The film blurrs the lines between genres (drama and documentary) and art forms (film, dance and poetry). The film plays with the contrast between the countryside, traditional with everyday life scenes and the world of dance, an expression of interior spaces. It will be filmed chronologically over three seasons, with natural light, creating environments that showcase the local climate and weather. The main protagonist will be a professional choreographer and the cast will be mostly formed by people from the village in order to foster spontaneity and realism. A few professional actors will complete the cast.
