2015 Winners: What are they doing now? Ignacio Juricic Merillán, 2nd Prize Winner

As the 2016 Cinéfondation selection has been unveiled, let’s talk with last year’s prize winners, looking back at the 2015 Festival and what has happened to them since then.

3 questions for Ignacio Juricic Merillán about his film LOCAS PERDIDAS (LOST QUEENS)

How did you react to winning your award at the Festival de Cannes 2015?
It was great for us to be selected in the Cinéfondation programme, and winning the Second Prize and the Queer Palm Award was something that we didn't expect, so it was a beautiful surprise. Besides the joy that it brought us as a team, the most important thing for me is that it brought the history of abuse and persecution of LGBTI people by the state of Chile out into the open.

What has your award brought you?
First, it made it easier to distribute our work which is great. We received invitations to participate in a lot of festivals around the world, and since then, people have taken us more seriously, so it's been very helpful in many ways, mostly for the projects that we are working on right now.

Do you have new projects?
Yes, I’m currently working on my first feature-length film called "Enigma", and my fourth short film, "Parking Lot".
