Biography and Filmography

João Pedro Rodrigues was born in Lisbon in 1966. He started studying biology at Lisbon University to become an Ornithologist, but gave it up for cinema studies and graduated from the Lisbon Film School.
João Pedro Rodrigues has already directed a documentary in two parts, having had his world debut in 1997 at the 54th Venice International Film Festival and the same year a short-film "Parabéns ! / Happy Birthday!" was awarded a Special Jury Mention at the 54th Venice International Film Festival. In 2000 he directed his first feature "O Fantasma" in competition at the 57th Venice International Film Festival and which won Best Feature Film at Belfort International Film Festival, and at The New Festival, New York. In 2005, His second feature "Odete" was awarded several prizes, among them the Special mention "Cinémas de recherche" at the 37th Directors Fortnight in Cannes. He is currently working on his third feature film Morrer Como Um Homem (To Die Like a Man) and continues to love watching birds.
