Biography and Filmography
Guka Omarova was born in 1968 in Kazakhstan. She studied journalism, then documentary film at the Institute of Cinema and Theatre, Almaty. She first worked at a journalist and then for the TV & Radio Complex of Kazakhstan. She started her film career by directing three documentary films and shorts. Her first feature film as a director and co-scriptwriter was "Schizo" (2004), which was selected at the Un Certain Regard. The film has won many awards and released in many-countries including the US in 2005. As scriptwriter, she also co-wrote "Sister" in 2000 with Sergei Bodrov Jr. "Naïve Dancer" will be her second feature film. |
