Biography and Filmography

Cãtãlin Mitulescu was born in 1972 in Bucharest, Romania. In 2001 he graduated from the UNATC (National University of Drama and Film Art) Bucharest film Directing Department. His short films "Bucharest-Wien 8:15" and "17 Minutes Late" were both selected for the Cinéfondation of the Cannes Film Festival and in other festivals like Clermont-Ferrand, Karlovy Vary, Angers and Torino. For his third short film "Traffic" he was awarded the Palme d'Or in 2004.The short films were distributed in theaters in Romania. In 2006 he wrote (together with Andreea Valean) and directed his first feature film "The Way I Spent the End of the World", a Romanian-French co-production. The film was selected for Un Certain Regard and received the best Actress Award. Cãtãlin Mitulescu also won with "The Way I Spent the End of the World" the NHK/Sundance Filmmakers Award for the best European Project (2005). He was also awarded for the script "When I Want to Whistle" in 2003 with the Hubert Bals Award and in 2002 with the Eureka Award. |
